This weekend, the women's CAB team is playing the Victor Hugo Cup. The competition includes all teams that will participate in this year's Women's League edition and runs according to a different format, which determines that each game is played in two parts of twelve minutes each. The location chosen for the event was the Multipurpose Pavilion in Gondomar. Positive debut in front of the Good Journey The CAB began the Cup dispute in front of the formation of the Good Trip. In the first part of the meeting with the Azorean team, the domain was CAB. Friends won the first 12 minutes for the 10-21 result. The highlight was for the young Catarina Miranda (7 points) and also for Vitória Pacheco and Ines Ajanovic (4 points each). The second part was more balanced, but the domain became the CAB, which revealed better understanding and collective spirit than the formation of the Good Journey. In defence, the CAB has also been better, leaving indications that it can perform interesting performances in this important sector of the game over the coming season. Therefore, in fairness, the Friends won the meeting by 31-39, having the best scorers in Catarina Miranda (9), Ines Ajanovic (6) and Marquelle Dent (6). Rosinha Rosário was determinant in the tables (7 points). It is not possible to draw many conclusions from the first game, because it was indeed a relatively fast and well played game. Even so, it was clear that Madeirans and Azoreans are still at a stage of growth and construction of defensive and offensive routines. The victory of the CAB was a result that is well accepted in view of the good group spirit that those commanded by João Freitas were able to transpose into the field. In the afternoon, at 3 p.m., the CAB will play the match against the winner of the match that took place at the same time as the Amigas mediate forces with Boa Viagem, namely the Sportiva, which surpassed the Olivais de Coimbra. Thus, another insular clash followed in the course of the CAB in the Victor Hugo Cup. Second winning game against Sportiva The game against Sportiva began with great balance between the two formations, which tried to adjust to each other's style of play, without risking too much. Proof of this is the fact that, in the middle of the first part, the two teams scored an 8-point draw. Until the break, there was a slight descent of the CAB team, which, also benefiting from some early-season nervousness and minor errors of the opponent in the defensive chapter, reached the middle of the game ahead by 16-13. In the second part, the teams revealed less hesitation than had been the case at the start of the game, playing the match more openly. From here, the CAB benefited, with six minutes of play elapsed, leading by 26-15, an advantage that was accepted, essentially, in the face of the defensive provision of Madeirans. The advantage of the Madeirans did not last long, because Sportiva worked 'in depth' to balance the match, and, 2 minutes later, the damage to the CAB was only 6 points (28-22). This recovery was a reflection of the merits of the Azoreans and also of some defensive demerit of the CAB, which failed in situations to which it had been able to respond so far. By the end of the meeting, the balance returned to be the dominant score between the two teams. However, the CAB had greater serenity in the final moments and managed to seal a fair victory by 33-28. By Madeirans, the best scorers were Rosinha Rosario (9) and Ines Ajanovic (8). Top friends of Loins After the victories before the Good Travel and Sportiva, the Friends played their third game of the day in a match that began at 9 p.m. From the front, the Madeirans had Quinta dos Lombos, a formation that very curiously presented in their initial five two players formed in the CAB, but now playing in Carcavelos. At the start of the match, Lombos was better, and in the middle of the first part, he led the meeting by 6-7. The CAB was not as focused as it had been in the first two games, and perhaps accused some tiredness, and therefore some devolution, too. But the friends didn't fall apart. On the contrary, they went to the fight and, thanks to their ability to overcome, ended the first part of the game in front by 18-15, with the best marks to be Simona Podevova (5) and Rosinha Rosario (4). In the second part, the CAB came in better, and with 5 minutes played, the Madeirans led by 26-19, a result that reflected the greatest intensity and group spirit they were bringing into the game, but also their defensive ability, especially. Lombos tried to answer, but the CAB was able to cross the path to the basket of Carcavelos players. Already in the attack, the Friends continued to show versatility in the options to throw into the basket, which made the task of continentals difficult. No surprise, when the game was three minutes away, the lead was CAB for 35-22. Until the end of the meeting, the ones commanded by João Freitas knew how to manage the meeting and the advantage achieved. Without ever relaxing in the compliments of the game plan, the CAB confirmed the victory in the meeting by 42-29, with the best scorers to be Simona Podevova (8) and Marta Bravo (6). The result achieved places the CAB team in the Victor Hugo Cup final, which will be played against the formation of Vagos in a match scheduled for 16:00 tomorrow, Sunday, 2 October.
