Today, the CAB celebrates 36 years of existence! 36 years of struggles, achievements and many successes that have brought value to national basketball and brought the name of Madeira to the highest levels, both in the country and across borders. Everything goes back to 1979, when a group of basketball-loving friends decided to start a club they called the Basketball Friends' Club (CAB). UK, this group of friends has created the institution to which we now associate and have laid the foundations and values with which we identify ourselves. The main idea of the group, which is still in place today, is that the CAB should essentially be a training school. However, due to the natural evolution of times, this role as a training entity has been complemented by participation in national and international professional competitions. In 1986, the CAB first participated in a national competition in the female sector. Three years later, he secured his first participation in a European test organised by FIBA. This experience has often been repeated over the years that followed, making CAB one of the most European clubs in Portugal. In 1989, the CAB began to participate in national male tests. In 1997, he became a national champion, gaining the right to participate in the League of Basketball Clubs, the league that meets the professional clubs of the sport. CAB tournament and own facilities Without ever abandoning its training role, in 1994 the CAB started organizing the country's largest basketball training tournament: the International CAB Tournament. Even today the tournament is held, bringing together, every year, hundreds of practitioners of the modality, not only Portuguese, but also other nationalities. In 1997, as a result of its growth and diverse contributions to the development of basketball in the country, the CAB inaugurated its own Pavilion, which still serves as the club's headquarters and reference location for all members of the numerous CAB FAMILY. A year later, in 1998, the CAB was considered an institution of public utility, and in 1999, the male professional team began to participate in European competitions. History continues Today, the CAB is a FAMILY FAMILY that brings together more than two hundred basketball practitioners and other hundreds of families who identify with our values and principles. Every year, our training schools compete over 190 games and our professional teams are involved in over a hundred matches. Over the last few years, both our seniors have participated assiduously in European competitions and achieved outstanding goals in the national competitions in which they are involved. Alongside all this, the CAB ranks as one of the most players clubs that provides the various national selections. The history of the CAB continues and, every day, its players, associates, sympathizers and leaders try, with their work, to contribute to the greatness of the club. With dedication, persistence, creativity and confidence, we are aware that the future of the CAB will continue to be a source of inspiration and pride. Birthday marked with book release This year, the club marks its anniversary with the release of the book 'Epocas Femininas', by João Paulo Silva ('Juca'), current coach of the male team, member of the club and former CAB player. The event takes place at 7:30 p.m., in the CAB Pavilion, and will have the presence of athletes, trenadore, leaders, historical figures of the CAB and several guests. The book that comes to the public today is the first written narrative in the history of the club and focuses on a particularly glorious time of the institutional life of the Friends of the Basketball, marked by the conquest of several national titles in the feminine sector. The release of the book will be followed by the traditional blow of the candles and from the cake to the club that today is 36 years old.
