The CAB has just announced the hiring of the athlete Joana Lopes for the 2014-2015 season. The player, who last year acted in France, thus returns to Portugal and to a League she knows very well. Joana Lopes has a vast curriculum in Portuguese basketball, as she has played in several national clubs, including Ovarense, CPN do Porto, Boa Viagem, Vagos and CAB Madeira itself, a team with which, at the time 2006/2007, won the championship and the Cup of Portugal. The player, who is also one of the most international Portuguese of today, presents as one of its main characteristics versatility, because she can play in almost all positions of the field, standing out both in points marking, assistance and promotions. In statements to the Official CAB Site, the female team coach, João Pedro Vieira, noted, “Joana Lopes, despite being away from Portuguese women’s basketball for some time, is still one of the best national players. Her coming to the CAB is a personal bet and challenge of her own and mine. I want to help you get back to your level and, if possible, even better.” According to the team leader, “Joana will help us a lot, because she can play in various positions in the field, and with her experience, I hope she will also help our younger athletes to evolve. As a coach, I have an ambition to do better and I know that Joana comes to Madeira with great desire to make an excellent time and help the CAB win.”
