This summer, the CAB starts a new and daring project that aims to strengthen its Training and instill in young club athletes the mentality and working methods necessary for a sports career. Named ‘Champions School’, the CAB project aims to provide a selected group of male and female athletes with the specialized training needed to increase their competitiveness and prepare them for the demands of high competition. Focused training starts next week, extending over the summer. With the starting of the classes, the Champions School trainings will be defined according to the school schedule of the athletes who are part of the project so as not to collide with the academic obligations of the players and players. In addition to the sports aspect, the School of Champions provides participants with personalized follow-up in the field of psychology, nutrition and school support in order to ensure the balanced and sustained development of the athlete. “To have athletes able to integrate senior teams, we need to work more intensively and more focusedly. This is not done in the normal training of the echelons, so we have to work outside the training schedule and in small groups so that we can give each of the athletes the specific accompaniment he or she needs”, explains João Pedro Vieira, CAB Coordinator. “In fact, one of the great valencias of the Champions School is that it treats each of the athletes selected as a specific case, which will be studied, analyzed and treated in a particular way so that we can maximize the basketball potential of the young people who are in the project,” added the ‘Friends’ coach. Although it focuses on basketball, the Champions School favors the studies. Proof of this is that the trainings are scheduled in line with the academic schedule and that each of the selected athletes can enjoy the support of the CAB in paying college tuition if they decide to continue their studies at the University of Madeira. In order to safeguard the great investment that the club will make in the formation of these athletes, some of the players and participating players may be offered a Sports Training Contract, which will ensure the connection of players and players to the club, as well as their integration into senior teams that, year after year, have played national and international competitions at the highest level. In statements to the CAB Official Site, Francisco Gomes, president of the club, commented on the project ‘School of Champions, noting, “I believe that the School of Champions may be the platform for having senior teams representative of our training schools and composed overwhelmingly by Madeiran athletes.” For the ‘Friends’ leader, “This is just a first step, but I believe that if we know how to take this first step, we may be facing the beginning of a future that will provide us with a competitive and even more Madeiran CAB, which is a source of pride for all of us.”.
