The CAB and the Portuguese Association for the Disorders of Development and Autism (APPDA) will collaborate in organizing a solidarity initiative called ‘Friends of Autism’. The event is a game of 'celebrities' and the idea behind the project is to raise funds to help the APPDA develop its mission to support children and young people suffering from developmental disorders. The game will be held on 2 April, a Sunday, in the CAB Pavilion, at 6 p.m., right after the match between the men's team of the CAB and the formation of Maia, referring to the Second Phase of the Professional League. The APPDA is a private institution of social solidarity (IPSS) recognized as a collective person of public utility. Created by a group of parents in April 2004, APPDA has three valencias, namely Therapeutic Support Center (which provides individualized support to children, young people and adults with developmental disorders and autism), Inclusive Holiday Center (which aims to occupy the free time of children and young people with and without developmental disturbances in order to promote skills necessary for social interaction) and Daily Activities Center (which aims to promote the process of personal development, autonomy and social inclusion through a range of activities of daily living, sports, sociocultural and pedagogical activities). In the game, the contribution of the participating players to the cause will come in the form of a 'kit' that they will acquire and that includes, among other objects, a t-shirt alluding to the event and a memory prepared by the children and young people who attend the APPDA. For Francisco Gomes, president of the CAB, the event ‘Friends of Autism’ is part of the work of proximity that the club of Nazaré has been developing over the years together with various Madeiran social institutions and is another affirmation of the social role that Friends have as a very important part of their institutional vocation. According to the club leader, "Sport only makes sense when it is put at the service of causes - and that is what is being done in this initiative. The CAB, as a Training Club that is focused on the sports and social education of children and young people, is proudly associated with the event and we trust that the participation of people from various quarters of society will help make it a success."
