The CAB men's team played their second game of the III CAB Cup against the British of Midnight Madness. The day before, the Madeirans had been defeated by the result of 74-78, very balanced numbers that reflected the great struggle and intensity that were recorded within the field between the two formations. For today's game, the CAB brought the lesson well studied, and in the first period, it was able to contain the great physical power of visitors, which had been one of the factors that had been felt most the day before. Friends appeared more assertive in the offensive movements, recording a number of good situations of understanding among their players. Even so, at the end of the first ten minutes of play, Madness's punctual advantage was 15-21. In the second period, the CAB came back quite aggressive, motivated by the belief that it could turn the marker around. On the contrary, the opponent tried to surprise the locals with a ‘zone’ defense, to which the CAB responded with well-achieved ball movements, especially if we meet the fact that the team has been together for only four days. However, in the middle of the second half, the Friends recorded a physical breakdown, which was well explored by the English to expand their advantage in the marker, performing a partial of 11 unresponsive points. Until the break, the CAB responded, trying to balance the course of the match, but the effort of the Madeirans did not prevent them from reaching the middle of the game to lose by 36-44. At this stage of the meeting, the highlight was to the advantage Madness had in the chapter of the caveats (24 won against 17 of the CAB) and to the use of the two-point releases (50% effectiveness against 39% of the CAB). Also in the chapter of the launch of the three points, superiority was English (43% effectiveness against 30% of the CAB). The third period opened with three almost consecutive triples of the CAB. The ‘bombs’ allowed Friends to recover points on the marker and gain another soul force. Confidence was breathed on the CAB side. On the other hand, the English felt the strong entry of the Friends and were less effective in their approach to the game than they had been in the previous two periods. Nevertheless, the English resistance allowed visitors to retain the advantage they had in the four points, reaching the end of the third time ahead by 63-67. In the last period of the meeting, the CAB entered with enormous will and determination to win the game. During broad phases of the period, superiority was unquestionably of the men of the house, who had the game ‘in hand’. However, the Madeiran team yielded to exaggerated aggressiveness and, on several occasions, unnecessary of visitors and focused on the crucial moments when it could have reversed the marker. Despite demonstrating sporting merit and great delivery, victory smiled again at Midnight Madness for 71-85, numbers that do not mirror the enormous balance that was seen in the field. Tomorrow, the CAB and Midnight Madness will again measure strength in the third game of these series. The match is scheduled for 8:00 at the CAB Pavilion. In individual terms: Austin Richie (3), Diogo Ventura (6), Fabio Lima (9), Jorge Coelho (16), Stuart Sullivan (11), Anthony Hill (26).
