It's been a while since we've had such an emotional game in the CAB Pavilion!... In a match scheduled at an hour that is unusual - 3 p.m. - the CAB men's team received and won Sampaense's formation by 87-83, in a truly contested match. The game, which was more suffered than well played, tested the nerves and emotions of Friends, who had to wait almost 37 minutes, of the 40 minutes of play, to smile and... win. The CAB even got into the game. However, Sampaense was very quick to balance the match and move on to the marker. In fact, at the end of the first 10 minutes of play, the continentals led 22-29, either on their own merit, but also because the CAB showed signs of not being in their best days, which in defense, either in the launch chapter. In the second half, the house reacted better and even won the partial by 19-16. However, in the accumulated result, the CAB collected to the locker rooms with a punctual disadvantage of 41-45, a result that was accepted, because, in the sum of the two periods, the visitors had been superior. In the third half, when a more assertive reaction of the Madeirans was expected, it was exactly the opposite that happened, because the Sampaense won the partial by 14-18 and placed the marker in 55-63. More serious than the superiority of the visitors in the marker was the weakness that the CAB was demonstrating in two fundamental aspects of the game, namely in defensive rotation and in caveats. In the case of defensive failures, they were allowing Sampaense (who was also having an afternoon inspired by the releases...) to enjoy easier and convenient opportunities to score points. In the case of the caveats, the CAB was allowing the continentals second and third launch opportunities, which were being detrimental to the aspirations of the Friends. In the fourth half, the 'film' of the three previous periods was repeated: the Sampaense gaining many points, exploring well the defensive gaps of the CAB and the CAB, on the other hand, fighting hard, but not being able to convert their determination into points. Suddenly, when only five minutes left to play, the CAB managed to start imposing its rhythm, will and game, producing a galvanizing effect that extended to the entire team. The cohesion and the spirit of struggle that are so characteristic of our team made themselves felt, and, basket after basket, bounce after bounce, those guided by João Paulo Silva 'turned the tide' in their favor and won the superiority of the match. Only in the last 10 minutes, the CAB scored 32 points, a number that expresses well the intensity and the huge claw that our players placed inside the field. Once again - and this was visible to all who were in the pavilion - the 'our boys' were a clear example and proof that, in basketball, those who have Alma and those who do not give up, get where they want to go. This afternoon, this Alma and this resilience brought, with merit and justice, the CAB to victory - one that will remain in our memory because it was conquered to irons and with great capacity for suffering. Thanks, guys! We are very proud of you all!
