For the second consecutive year, the CAB was elected Club of the Year of the Women's League. The distinction will be given to the Madeiran club this weekend, among the games of the half-finals of the Federation Cup, to take place in the Municipal Pavilion Luís de Carvalho, Barreiro. This is the seventh edition of the Women's League Awards. Recognition is a truly remarkable time for the women's team of Friends of the Basketball, marked by the conquest of three national titles, namely the Federation Cup, the Portuguese Cup and the Super Cup. The award is all the more remarkable if it is taken into account the fact that it results, in part, from a vote held between all the clubs of the Women's League, in which a significant majority decided to award the Club of the Year distinction to the Club of Madeira. In statements to the CAB website, the president of Friends, Francisco Gomes, thanked all the clubs that voted in the Madeiran club. “I appreciate the trust placed in the CAB by the clubs that voted in us and I guarantee that we will do everything to repay it by working to be an exemplary club in the Liga Feminina, which promotes not only good internal management practices, but also contributes to the promotion of the sport in Portugal, especially at a time when it faces many challenges and setbacks.” Francisco Gomes also tied a challenge to the current women’s squad, observing, “As happy as we can be with the prize, we need to have our feet on the ground and recognize that the past has been and does not contribute anything to the materialization of the important goals we have at present. Therefore, the challenge for this year’s team is to work to do better than last year, not only because it has all the conditions for it, but also because the attitude of any competitive team has to be that of always wanting to do more and better, because we can never make the mistake of conforming or finding ourselves satisfied.” The CAB players, Joana Lopes and Marta Bravo, also gained individual distinctions due to their performances last season. In the case of Joana Lopes, she won the prizes for the best percentage of free releases and also the best average of assists per game. Marta Bravo was the best triplet, a prize that crowns her accuracy in long-distance launches. The CAB's Official Site congratulates both players on the prizes they have won and also the entire women's team, as individual success is only achieved on the basis of good collective work.
