The CAB Men's Team returns to work Friday. In the coming days, the group will be engaged in physical preparation, with training sessions that aim to prepare the group for the intense coming time. Physical preparation will be accompanied by technical and tactical preparation, with the group assimiling the game models that Coach João Freitas wants to implement during the 2013-2014 period. The pre-time of Friends is known to be particularly harsh. Surely this year will be no exception, with João Freitas demanding the maximum concentration and commitment of the squad in order to place the players at a level of preparation that allows them to withstand the struggle of the Professional League. As for the working group, the reductions imposed by the Administration in the salary mass of the team and in the number of non-Madeian athletes caused the squad to have to be reviewed. Thus, to the Madeiran athletes transiting from last year – Nuno Baptista (in full recovery of the injury that removed him from the fields in the last two seasons), Carlos Bettencourt, Nuno Sousa, Jorge Freitas and José Correia – the group also includes Jorge Coelho and Fábio Lima. These two athletes go to the fourth consecutive season of the CAB service, being already considered as athletes of the house. In the new season, Coelho and Lima will assume even more responsibilities given their knowledge of the club and the rigorous way of working for the main coach. These athletes are joined by Edson Rosario, from the Physics of Torres Vedras, a player known for his athletic characteristics and for the great intensity with which he approaches the match, both in defensive aspects and in offensive aspects. The player will certainly be a dynamo of energy in João Freitas' team, making his presence felt within the field. Frederico Tavares is also returning to the CAB and to a house that saw him grow up for basketball, as it was at the CAB that started playing when he was only 5. Having integrated, for several years, the layers of Formation of Friends, the athlete went through clubs such as Atlético, Queluz and Lusitania, recording a remarkable maturity. Last year, Frederico played in the Proliga's Third Basketball, where he scored 14.8 points per game, 5.7 points and 1.7 robberies, finishing the year as one of the best markers of that competition. As far as non-Portuguese athletes are concerned, they are currently in contact with some players and their representatives, with the announcement of any contracts reserved for when the understanding agreements between the players and the CAB are complete.
