Two weeks of intense work with the club's Formation athletes defined Juca's return to the house that saw him born and grow up in basketball. The new helmsman of the senior male team of the CAB guided, with the help of Carlos Sousa, assistant coach of male training, observation sessions in which a selected group of athletes from Friends schools took part. In a short interview, the CAB Official Site asked Coach Juca to take stock of the two weeks of training and the conclusions they allow for the current and future framework of athletes trained in the club in the CAB professional team. Here we recorded the dialogue we had with the coach: How did these two weeks' return to work at the CAB go? It was two weeks of intense activity that allowed us to extract an interesting set of information about the capabilities of our young athletes. We have sought to identify a starting point for each of them to be involved in the programme to be implemented in each of the senior teams. Although the solutions available at the moment are not abundant, we are convinced to benefit from the participation of some of these athletes in the teams that compete for national races. We conclude that one of the main difficulties is directly related to the fragile and scarce regional competitive environment. In view of this reality, athletes cannot put into practice a set of decisions that are only evidenced in a real competitive situation. We have been working on methodologies to ensure that we reduce the limited competition during the training process. What is the balance of the group with which you worked in these observation trainings? We note that the working group has some heterogeneity in the mastery of the fundamentals of the game. That is why we have focused our attention on technical aspects that will later ensure a convenient collective dynamic. Through the insistence and the personalized work framework, we will certainly progress towards bringing each of these athletes closer to the intended direction. These two weeks of work also enabled a better knowledge and relationship between all elements, thus helping the coaches to follow and guide the training program we want to see developed in athletes. Did you feel the group respond to what was asked of them? Yeah. In fact, I would like to distinguish once again the enormous dedication that athletes have shown in the course of their work. Only then will a series of medium-term commitments be fulfilled. As important as their sport and social training, we feel in each of these athletes an immense empathy in representing the CAB. Much is said about the difficulties of forming athletes with a view to integration into the professional team... In this regard, this initial period of work proved that the problem of sports training is not focused solely on identifying technical and tactical resources, which often absorb much of our time. The solution is in the persistent and believing form of those whose function is to make these contents manifest in the performance of athletes. We realize that this is a gradual and time-consuming process. However, we aim to respond to the expectations that we observe in the attitudes of each of these young people. In the last days of training, the group had the presence of international, and former CAB player, Filipe Silva. What was it like having him in practice? In addition to the technical quality he added, Filipe transmitted fundamental knowledge to our young people at the level of reading the game. The athletes had the opportunity to relate to a player who already represented the CAB and who currently plays in France, one of the most evolved leagues in Europe. A big hug, Philip, and thank you so much for your cooperation. Working with these young people and motivating them to reach seniors is not an easy task... The truth is, as coaches, we have this noble responsibility of always trying to..
