CAB and Funchal Timetables have just established an institutional partnership that brings great sports value to Madeira and regional basketball. In practice, the joining of forces between the two clubs will allow the Region to place another team in the national championships, particularly in the first national male division, which is the fourth Madeiran representation at the top of Portuguese basketball. Protocol is signed this afternoon at 3:00 p.m. on the CAB Pavilion. The idea for the partnership between clubs arose after the conclusion of the last season, when the directors of the two clubs discussed the possibility of joining forces to ensure a quality and competitive participation in the first division. The arrival of Dúlio Martins in the presidency of the Club Time in Funchal and the excellent personal relationship he maintains with Francisco Gomes, president of the CAB, further boosted the relationship between the two institutions, making possible, at times, the agreement that has just been signed between the two clubs. According to the terms of the partnership, the team that will take part in the first division will play with the name and colors of Funchal Times. In addition, the team will be able to train at the premises of the CAB Pavilion and enjoy the full support of Friends in matters related to the logistics management of the working group. Also, the team will be guided, in partnership, by a CAB coach and one of Funchal Timetables. The CAB can, in turn, run on the satellite team the sub-24 athletes who are integrated in the squad that is competing in the professional league. In statements to the CAB Official Site, Francisco Gomes did not hide his joy with the agreement signed, noting “We’ve just taken a very important step as a club, because we’ve managed to materialize a goal that we’ve been trying for a long time, which is the creation of a team that could operate as another step in the formation of our male athletes and offer them another stage of preparation and competition on their way to the team that competes for the Professional League.” For the president of the CAB, “We are grateful to Funchal Times for having always believed in this partnership, which brings even more value to Madeiran basketball. The agreement we reached is proof that, even in an adverse financial context, it is possible to work on behalf of an increasingly strong and dignified Madeirense Sport in national competitions.” Funchal Timetable is the fourth Madeiran team with participation in national basketball competitions. The others are the CAB, with teams in the Women's League of Basketball and the Men's Professional League, and the Maritime, which militates from the 1st Women's Division, under a partnership agreement with the CAB that is similar to what now unites the ‘Friends’ to Funchal Times.
