The CAB was elected by the Portuguese Basketball Federation the Women's League Club of the Year. The distinction, which refers to the 2013-2014 season, is the result of votes made to the various clubs and players involved in the Women's League competitions and crowns a very competitive time held by the Friends. Throughout the transatlantic season, the CAB was present at all the highlights of the Women's League competition, including the League final, where it lost to Quinta dos Lombos. The highlight, however, goes to the conquest of the Cup of Portugal, made that took place in a Final Four organized in Funchal, and that made CAB the club, in active, with more Taças de Portugal conquered. The award won will be held this Saturday, at 5 p.m., at the Vagos Municipal Pavilion, on the occasion of the realization of the Federation Cup. The senior female coach, João Pedro Vieira, will receive the trophy on behalf of the club. In statements to the Official CAB Site, Francisco Gomes, president of the Board of Friends, commented on the achievement of the distinction, noting, "It is a cause of joy for the club, not only because it is a recognition of all the agents of the Women's League, including the clubs themselves, but also because it concerns a time that was extremely challenging for us through the redefinition of the sports support model in the region, with everything that this has implied for us in terms of management and the enormous sacrifices we had to make to survive. It's a sign that it was worth it and that what we did was well done." "I say this, the past is past and we will not fall asleep in his shadow. Of course it is not every day that we are elected 'Club of the Year', but in our home, there is a good custom of thinking that the most important title is the one we will conquer next. Therefore, our total attention is on the coming competition fronts, where we want to make our mark and win more trophies for the club."
